About

Money advice that doesn’t talk down to you.

Smart Money Tips exists for the people who got stuck Googling “how do I actually do this” — and found a wall of jargon, fear-mongering, or thinly veiled ads. We write the kind of guides we wish we’d had.

What we believe

Most personal finance content online falls into one of two camps. The first is too vague to act on — “spend less than you earn” feels obvious until rent is due Friday. The second is written by people who’ve never had $42 in checking. We aim for the middle: specific, tested, honest advice that respects your time and your reality.

How we work

  • Step-by-step, never theoretical. Every guide is structured around what you do this week, next week, next month — not abstract principles.
  • Tested against real-life budgets. If a strategy doesn’t work when your discretionary budget is $80, we say so.
  • Updated as the world changes. Rates move. Tax laws shift. We revise posts as the math changes, not as an excuse for a “fresh” date.
  • Honest about tradeoffs. No strategy is universally best. We tell you who it’s for, who it isn’t, and what you give up.

What you’ll find here

Four core areas, each written to take you from “I don’t know where to start” to “I’ve got a clear next move”:

  • Budgeting — frameworks that survive contact with real life
  • Saving — emergency funds, sinking funds, savings accounts that actually pay
  • Debt Payoff — credit cards, loans, snowball vs avalanche, when to use each
  • Investing — index funds, retirement accounts, the bare minimum you actually need to know

How we make money

This site is supported by affiliate links to financial products we’d actually recommend to a friend. When you click a link and open an account or buy a product, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. We never recommend a product just because it pays better. We turn down more affiliate partners than we accept.

Who we are

A small editorial team that’s collectively been broke, dug out, made dumb money mistakes, learned from them, and now writes about it. We’re not financial advisors and nothing on this site is personalized advice. We’re writers who care about getting the details right.
